Self Portrait After a Painting by Sir Frank Dicksee

It's been a while since I have painted an Old Master's copy and done a self-portrait. I have always loved the painting titled Leila (alternative tilePassion 1892) by Sir Frank Dicksee (1853-1928) , who was an English Oil painter of considerable skill.

I started the painting without an underpainting and approached it slightly differently than I usually do. One of the things I have learned from my digital portraits is that there are so many color dabs that when placed together, side by side create a really interesting effect. In order to break old habits I have been all over the place or canvas and it is a much less controlled way of painting. This is how much I got so far and probably have to put it aside again to finish portrait commissions. I will post again as soon as the painting develops further.
