 Painting Flowers the Van Wyk Way By Helen Van Wyk

Today I want to share a great resource book titled "Painting Flowers the Van Wyk Way" by Helen Van Wyk. Helen does a great job explaining how to tackle the multitude of petals and shades that we see when looking at flowers. Just like in portrait painting the key is to simplify everything into the light and dark abstract shapes. She shows how to play warm and cool colors against each other and how to use a line or disappearing edges to bring something forward or make it recede. And of course a whole lot more.

I painted my rose using only Ultramarine Violet, transparent Dioxazine Purple, black and white. The original has sold but prints are available from below.
