Portrait of a Boxer Named Stella

When I was painting the portrait of Stella a white boxer my son came into the room and commented how cute she looked sleeping. When I told him that Stella had just passed away from a brain tumor, he shook his head and asked "Why do people only ask you to paint their dead pets?"
I think it's because we never fully understand how very dear our pet are to us until they are no longer with us. If I could get more moments of my Yorki - Benji back when he would insanely bark at god knows what, I would gladly do it now.
But back to beautiful Stella, I hope she rests in peace and knows that she is well loved. A bit about painting technique. When painting anything white I reserve true white only for highlights and areas I want to draw attention to. The remainder of time I will pull colors that I spot in the surrounding areas. It just so happens that Stella also had a lot of pink around certain areas of her head, which made it even easier to give her little head definition.
My client said she will post photos of the framed painting. I can't wait to see how it looks framed and where she will be displaying it. Here are some in progress shots ....
