Brown Horse in Landscape
Share
I have been working like crazy and have a new horse portrait to share. None of the landscape existed in the reference photo, which was rather old.
I started this commission by removing the figure and painting in the missing sections of the body and the limb. I noticed the pretty gold hues in the hooves and decided to play it up even more by creating a landscape that has some bushes with orange, gold foliage. The original stance of the horse looked a bit odd and therefore it was placed on a slope. Slowly, everything came together and now this horse looks like it has always stood in the landscape. Here are some close-up shots of the painting.
The original photo had nothing but black for the eyes, with a bit of added highlight and reconstructive painting the eye is back and this lovely horse can gaze back at it's owner again.
By varying the amount of paint heavy versus soft the illusion of a real landscape is created. Right now the painting is drying and soon it will be on it's way to it's new home.
