The Hunting Party German Shorthair Dog Portraits
This painting started out with four different photos, showing each of the dogs in a variety of background settings. My client wanted me to combine them into one painting and asked to pick a hunting theme. I don't hunt and have never even been on a hunt, except perhaps hunting down the gopher in my backyard and had to look at some art books to get ideas. With one dog seated and the others in various standing positions, I decided to show them in a waiting position. They are attentive and looking towards their master, which can mean that the hunt is about to start or just has ended.
I decided to keep the background loose so that the focus remains on the grouping of German Shorthair pointers. According to Wikipedia the German Shorthair is one of the most versatile sporting breeds around. The stylish and regal German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP for short) is a superb hunting dog who also excels as a family companion. He hunts feathered and furred game and will even trails deer.
