Freisian Horse Portrait
The Friesian (also Frizian) is a horse breed originating in Friesland, in the Netherlands. I have seen them during horse shows and just love how these horses look. The original photo reference send by my client had a child in the picture. My client requested that I not paint the child and just show the majesty of this beautiful horse.
This is a rather dark horse so the trick was to bring some life into the painting. I worked not only a lot of texture in but made sure that the foliage in the background was equally interesting as a backdrop and great contrast to the horse.
