Pug-head-painting Pug portraits can be painted from existing photos in a variety of styles with different poses. For this portrait a neutral warm beige and ochre background was chosen to compliment the dark colors of the pet's fur. I worked in some blue tones to really bring out definition and to take the painting from flat to almost touchable.

I consider the canvas to be prime real estate and like to have my pets take up as much space on the canvas as possible. This allows me to really show the details in their eyes.
