Two Hearts Bound in Shadows and Silk - Custom Valentines Portrait
I have started work on a new portrait commission of a couple. My client has requested a red and black, romantic-themed portrait and requested that I combine two reference photo and turn them into one painting.
The reference photos were more like selfies and needed some tinkering to make them look as if the figures had always been part of one reference. I also needed to change their expressions to make them friendlier and more relaxed. I started out by giving my client diferent background options to get a feel for the style that resonated with him. Once the poses were approved, I was able to start the painting process. My years of painting in oil, translate to my digital portraits as well and I usually start out with a rough sketch and a quick, very loose application of color. As the work progresses, the painting will become more of a likeness with smaller brush strokes applied to bring out details. I will be updating this video with new work-in-progress shots as they become available.
