Spitz Dog Portrait 657

Spitz Dog Portrait

I have been hard at work painting in details so that this little, black German Spitz takes on the form. This dog has so much black fur, that it was difficult to see the features. All I kept seeing was two little eyes that popped out like little buttons. Painting black on black does nothing for a portrait, so I figured I start with a deep red-brown. Ones the figure was in, I added black and then topped it off with various values of blue that were pulled from the background.

By layering color like this it is possible to hint at the form under all that fur and add interest to that cute little face.
