Duck Hunting with an American Water Spaniel

What special gift do you give someone who loves duck hunting? A portrait of their loyal hunting companion of course! My client mentioned that her husband loves to duck hunt in the swarms of Louisiana and therefore we took the photo below and just added a marshland setting and a duck.
This American Water Spaniel originally sat in a flat bed and needed to get transplanted into a landscape. I created this fictional landscape around the dog and hope that it will evoke wonderful memories for the recipient of this special portrait. The handling of the landscape is in a light Impressionistic style to evoke that marshland haze you get when water evaporates on a warm day. The duck is painted loosely as to not take attention away from the loyal hunting partner.
