The Newlyweds

Newlyweds in 1/12 Scale Miniature
Work on the Island Wedding continues at a steady pace. I have lost count how many times I have painted these figures until I ended up with the finish I was happy with. Since the figures are housed under a floral arch in a shadow box, the colors had to be just so as to not appear too dark or dull. Adding a bit of glamorous sheen did the trick and I can finally devote my attention to making flowers for the arch.

Here you can see how the figures started out
3 D printed figures require a lot of sanding and clean up. I use various grids of sandpaper and often go in to carve out details or make corrections. I also found that a heat tool will melt the PLA , which can then be manipulated into the shape needed.
When I was in art school we learned that artwork when viewed from below had to be painted differently, then items that were viewed straight on. This principle also applies to artwork that is partially covered, like these figures that will be in a shadow box. the reduced amount of lighting inside a shadow box means that colors have to catch the light and bounce it off, otherwise the piece will get lost in the shadows and appear dull and lifeless. It took a bit of experimenting until I found the right colors that suited my needs.
The corsage on the groom's jacket is tiny! When working on such small details, I rely heavily on a strong magnifying glass.
The figures measure about 15.5 cm and I can't wit to place them under the beautiful floral arch.
