🌴 Island Wedding Shadow Box Reveal 💍

Island Wedding Shadow Box Reveal

Today I’m finally sharing the Island Wedding shadow box—and this one truly stole my heart. I loved recreating the rose-covered arch beneath which this couple said “I do” last year.

The biggest challenge? Creating a convincing illusion of depth inside an 11×14-inch shadow box—while still leaving enough physical space for a flowing wedding veil.

Each stage of this project has its own in-depth blog post, and I’m happy to share the links if you’d like to dive deeper into the materials, techniques, and behind-the-scenes videos.

3d printed bride and groom

To recap: I began by modeling the figures and 3D-printing the couple on my Bambu Lab printer. Once painted, I created a soft ocean-and-palm backdrop, using a subtle chiaroscuro effect to enhance the sense of distance.

Then came the archway—built, layered with greenery, and transformed with dozens of air-dry clay flowers. Every single bloom was hand-painted and carefully placed.

I also made the palm trees and bushes, slowly watching the landscape come to life.

Along the way, our little groom needed a hair fix (off to the barber he went!), which gave me time to create the bride’s veil.

And because I’m a stickler for detail, I couldn’t resist figuring out how to make a tiny yamaka for the groom.

Once everyone was dressed and ready, they took their places for the big moment.

I even shared how this delicate piece was packaged for its journey from California to Nashville—always a nerve-wracking but satisfying step.

This was such a joyful project to work on, and I hope you enjoyed following along as much as I enjoyed creating it.
