This digital portrait of a Labrador dog started out with a rather pale soft background. However as I kept working on the painting I realized that the coat of the dog is so light that it needed a more powerful background to make it pop more. The little dog toy with it's vibrant colors of pink and turquoise blue needed to become more part of the overall color scheme as well. So I worked in pinks and ever so light purples into the background as well. The eyes were completely lost in the original reference so I brought them back in and added highlights to give them more expression.
