The Coat of a Poodle

Most dogs have double coats, but poodles lack an undercoat and only have a single layer of dense, curly fur.  Poodles could be considered hypoallergenic (though not completely allergen free), since they do not shed like most dogs do.

Painting the fur of a poodle is very challenging, especially if the dog is black. When I painted the fur of this poodle, I worked in blues and purples and alternated between thick and heavy paint to show the curls.

When poodles are puppies, their hair continues to grow just like the hair of a human and will need to be trimmed. Over time a good trim is a must otherwise you most likely will get a good deal of matting. Many people give their poodles very fancy haircuts, but taht's more a preference and not really necessary.
