Portrait Vignette Children

Portrait Vignette Children

Sweet Dreams

Some time ago I showed examples of adult portrait vignettes and thought it is time I followed up with samples of children vignettes.

The idea behind a vignette (French, "little vine")is that the painting is created in a less formal style than a full scale portrait, with less secondary detail such as clothing or background. Sometimes the borders are left undefined and seem to fade away gradually until the paint blends into the background. At other times the background is only hinted at with parts of canvas still showing or is a solid color. It really is up to the artist how much of the background is shown. In comparison to a full painting the composition is designed with little or no plot or larger narrative structure.

Vignettes make lovely one of a kind gifts and are especially great for people who have little wall space. They are also a more cost effective way to own an original piece of art.
