British Shorthair Cat Portraits
I paint so many pet portraits, yet there is always one breed or another missing. When I found out that I get a chance to paint British Shorthair cats I was very excited.
The British Shorthair is the pedigreed version of the traditional British domestic cat, with a distinctively chunky body, dense coat and broad face. The most familiar color variant is the "British Blue", a solid blue-gray with copper eyes, but the breed has also been developed in a wide range of other colors and patterns. I think this is one very pretty breed.
My client had two separate photos that were merged to create this one painting of her two cats. As you can see one of the cats had her paws hidden by the bed sheets. I painted in the missing paws so that the composition would look complete.
Cat Eye Detail
This painting was a digital portrait order, but as you can see there is so much brushwork detail. I use a combination of different brushes to layer the textures and to create a painting that is visually interesting.
Head Detail of British Shorthair
I pulled in some of the light blue tones of the background for the cat on the top and some pinks for the cat on the bottom to make certain areas pop more.
