Calico Cats - Portrait of two cats

Mood Board

I am working on a new portrait of two Calico cats. The painting will be a combination of two separate reference photos merged into one painting. After reviewing some options for the layout, my client decided on a landscape orientation for the 18x24in canvas. For the background light grey, pink, beige, teal and yellows are chosen to create an interesting, contemporary backdrop.

Then it was time to find colors that would go with what the client's color choices were. The colors will be pulled from this image for a soft-looking backdrop. Since the pattern of the fur is rather detailed I have started out with a blakc and white redition of the pets. The next step will be to add the fur color.
