A dynamic explosion of color make up this experimental abstract, which I painted with Acrylics on a 16x20 in canvas. Every so often I like to flex my muscles and try something completely different, something that feels foreign to my usual painting habits and that force me to experiment with a variety of mediums and styles.
Painting is a constant process of decision making - making choices about color, texture, position, directions, etc. In "Color Explosion" I worked quickly and intuitively and allowed myself only one pre-requisite, which was to have fun.
Detail of Color Explosion
As the painting evolved, I noticed how I gravitated to a vibrant color palette. I loved watching how colors intertwined to create new shades. My palette seldom has heaps of paints on it, yet with this painting I was emptying paint tubes at a super fast pace. Mountains of paint started to built up and then explodes and cascades into rainbows of colors as I moved them with my palette knife.
I see further exploration into abstract painting, perhaps on a more controlled thought out level. I like to explore textures in large scale paintings and see where that leads to.
