Renovating a Fisher Price 2005 Mattel Loving Family Grand Mansion Twin Time Dollhouse House Part 1 Exterior
The Fisher Price 2005 Mattel Loving Family Grand Mansion Twin Time Dollhouse House is a large 8 room dollhouse made out of plastic. When open the house measures about 30x30in it is spacious looking. When I first saw this yellow, pink and purple house I was turned off by the colors, but then I thought this would be a fun project for a renovation. The house has nice floors and pretty doors and windows and has lots of potential.
The first thing that had to happen was several coats of white to cover up all those god awful colors. After about three coats the house took on an unexpected grandeur and I was getting more and more excited to continue the renovation.
This house has a lot of architectural detail and I wanted to show it off as much as possible. I chose a bluish pewter color (Bright Metallic Paint for the roof and Art Mind's Chalk Carie Porcelain for the walls. The doors have a warm golden tone and all these colors repeat over and over throughout the exterior (even in the rocks)
After the initial white chalk pain layers, I used chalks and colored pencils to enhance the rock texture. By creating veins in darker and lighter shades of grey and adding hints of brown tones, the texture is slowly build up.
As you can see when everything is the same color, all that nice detail is lost. By adding darker colors in the grooves and slowly getting lighter form is created. The transformation is rather amazing. You can add a bit of paint varnish to give some of the areas additional sheen. I used some of the same Metallic blue as a final coat over the rocks. The ever so light repetion of colors in other areas harmonizes the overall appearance of the house.
