During our visit to Washington DC, we passed through the Mary Livingston Ripley Garden. What a beautiful little oasis tucked away in the city!
Mrs. S. Dillon Ripley was a plant scholar and active gardener,who created this lovely garden on the eastern border of the Arts and Industries Building in a location that was designated to become a parking lot. In 1978 this garden enthusiast convinced the Women's Committee of the Smithsonian Associates, which she had founded in 1966, to support the garden. Eventually the garden was named after her and is still tended to, so we may enjoy it's formal raised flower beds, beautiful fountains and quiet setting.
