Miniature Schnauzer Portrait 697 in Progress

Schnauzer Reference Photo

I have a new portrait commission of a Miniature Schnauzer. My client has sent in a rather dark reference photo and I have been busy bringing out some highlights, so I can see what is going on with that cute face.

The grassy area and backdrop stay and the only thing that gets removed is the leash. I made a little color swatch to see the colors I am working with. Right now I am using purple and blues for the coat and like how the cool tones contrast with the warm green tones in the grass. However, this is painterly and I need to check with my client to see if she likes it that wat or what a coloring of brown tones? I can't really tell from the photo if this little Schnauzer is black or brown. So it's time to put this painting aside and get some feedback before I continue on.
