Transforming Your Dollhouse with Tissue Paper Elegance: A French Provincial Kitchen Makeover

French Provincial decor, also known as Provencal style, is an interior design style that originated in the countryside of France. It's characterized by a warm, inviting aesthetic that draws inspiration from the rustic charm of French rural homes. I'll guide you through the process of creating exquisite wallpaper and embellishing furniture with a special focus on a French Provincial kitchen with vintage blue toile tissue paper decor.

1. Choosing the Right Tissue or Wrapping Paper: Selecting the perfect paper is crucial for achieving the desired aesthetic. Opt for high-quality tissue or wrapping paper with a design that complements the theme of your dollhouse. In my case, I fell in love with a vintage blue toile pattern that exuded the elegance of French Provincial style. I have found another similar design which you can order from Zazzle here.

2. Creating Stunning Wallpaper: Start by measuring the walls of your dollhouse rooms. Cut the tissue paper to fit the dimensions, ensuring extra for any pattern alignment. To adhere the paper to the walls, use a light coat of glue or decoupage medium. Smooth out any wrinkles or bubbles for a seamless finish. The French Provincial kitchen, with its delicate toile wallpaper, instantly transported my dollhouse to a bygone era of charm and sophistication.

3. Embellishing Furniture with Decoupage Technique: Give your dollhouse furniture a facelift through the art of decoupage. This technique involves applying layers of tissue paper onto surfaces for a decorative effect.  The result will be  a cohesive and visually striking ensemble that complements the wallpaper seamlessly.

4. Step-by-Step Guide:

a. Measure and cut tissue paper to fit furniture surfaces. Make sure that you only use one super thin layer of the paper. I prefer to carefully tear the designs by hand to get rugged, uneven edges, rather than cutting the design with scissors. This technique results in a better blend that does not look like a cut out.

b. Apply a thin layer of decoupage glue to the furniture. Mod Podge works great for this. Here is a video how to use Mod Podge

c. Carefully place the tissue paper onto the glued surface.

d. Smooth out any wrinkles and apply another layer of glue on top.

e. Allow the furniture to dry completely.

f. Use the same stain or paint that was used on the furniture piece to blent the edges in.

g. Once that layer is dry you can add another layer of Modpodge over the entire area or spray on a sealant.

5. Personal Touch and Customization: Don't be afraid to add your personal touch to the project. Mix and match different tissue paper patterns, experiment with colors, and let your creativity shine. The joy of dollhouse decoration lies in the unique expression of your style.
