The Cherimoya Fruit

The Jewel of the Incas

On my trip to the local Farmer's Market I came across the Cherimoya ~ The Jewel of the Incas. I had never seen this fruit before and had to ask what it was. The fruit has a thin green skin that needs to be peeled to reveal the soft, sweet and tangy white flesh. The taste is a bit harder to describe, something in between a fruit salad made of a mixture of Mango, Papaya and perhaps Bananas.

Fruits from South of the Border

Since California shares a border with Mexico, there are plenty of opportunities to taste unfamiliar produce. Just ask the vendors, they usually love to share insights and often will even peel s.th for you just so you can have a try.
