Delicious Apple Strudel Recipe

Apple Strudel

Apple Strudel

When fall comes around I get in the mood for baking. When the aroma of freshly baked apples and cinnamon fill the house, everyone gathers in the kitchen to see when the apple strudel is ready. I hope you give this recipe a try and do let me know what you think of it.

Ingredients:

Makes 8 servings

2 sheets puff pastry (1 package)

2 TBSP butter

4-5 apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar

grated peel of 1 orange

1/4 cup chopped walnuts

Glaze

3/4 cup confectioners' sugar

1TBSP milk

1/4 tsp vanilla extract

Directions

~ Preheat oven to 350 F

~ Remove puff pastry from package to thaw

~ Melt butter over medium heat in a large saute pan.

~ Add apples and cook until tender.

~ Right before they are soft add sugar, grated orange peel and walnuts. Stir gently until the sugar has melted and the apples are glazed.

~ Place a sheet of puff pastry on a greased cookie sheet.

~ Along each long side of the pastry make angled slits 1 inch apart from the edge to within about 1/2-3/4 inch of the fold mark.

~ Spread half of the apple mixture down the center.

~ Fold the cut sides over the top in a crisscross pattern and pinch the ends closed.

~ Repeat for the 2nd strudel.

~ Bake for 20-30 min or until golden brown.

~ Combine all the ingredients for the glaze in a small bowl and wisk to blend. For a thinner consistency add 1/2 tsp more milk.

~ Drizzle over the warm strudel.
