Amaryllis Growing Tips

Planting Bulb: Plant your amaryllis in light, well-draining potting mix, with the top 1/3 of the bulb sticking up out of the soil. Water: Water the amaryllis whenever the top inch of soil feels dry. Avoid letting the bulb sit in wet soil, and avoid pouring water down into the crown of the bulb.

Amaryllis Care After they Bloom

You can coax the bulbs of Amaryllis to produce blooms year after year by following a few simple steps:

1. After blooms are spend snip them off about 1/2 " from the bulb. Leave the leaves.

2. The leaves gather light and through photosynthesize give nutrients to the bulbs for future blooming.

3. Water the plant just like before ensuring that the soil stays moist, but not soggy.

4. Once the leaves do not look too pretty, it's time to move the plant into the garden. I often replant the bulbs the same way they were planted in the pot (shoulders exposed) - slightly above ground so that water can runoff. You can also leave the bulbs in the pot as long as there is good drainage.
