Pierrot A French Mime Character Depicted in Art
Share
Pierrot is naive and trusting, somewhat moonstruck in his own little world. He has been depicted on stage and in many paintings over the years. He was a stock character of pantomime and Commedia Del'Arte whose origin dates back to the 17th century Italian troupe of players performing in Paris.

Pierrot is a mime character, a French version of the Italian Pedrolino. A sad clown, hopefully in love with Columbine, who breaks his heart and leaves him for Harlequin. He is usually depicted wearing a loose, white tunic with an oversize collar and long sleeves. His face was often painted white and he often wore a head cap. There are many posters and even paintings of this very interesting character.
