Part of the fun of making miniatures is deciding on how to finish a piece. After giving the gnomes solid colored hats it was time to do some experimenting with new looks.
I actually have the large life size version of this gnome. I like the gold and grey finish - it's sophisticated and minimalistic in style.
However, sometimes a splash of color is just what is needed in a scene. Here I finished the hat with a decoupage treatment.
Other times repeating the same color scheme fills in a scene. Notice how the the red repeats throughout. These little fellow can even be used inside the dollhouse as a decorative element.
