The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine because it has been widely cultivated in the country since the mid-18th century, representing the warmth and energy of the sun, and is considered a symbol of national pride and resilience, particularly due to its association with peace and the planting of sunflowers in areas affected by the Chernobyl disaster; in Ukrainian, the sunflower is called "soniashnyk" which directly translates to "little sun".
