The Sweet Side of Summer: How a Bowl of Cherries Inspired My Latest Collections
Share

There is a specific moment in late June when summer truly announces its arrival. It isn’t marked by the thermometer hitting a certain digit, but rather by the appearance of the first perfectly ripe, deep-crimson sweet cherries at the local market.

There is a wonderful, slow-paced ritual to eating cherries on a warm afternoon. You pull up a chair, sit in the dappled shade, and lose track of time alternating between the sweet, tart burst of flavor and finding a place to discard the stems. It’s pure, uncomplicated relaxation.

As an artist, I’ve learned that inspiration rarely strikes when you’re staring blankly at a clean canvas or a neat stack of raw materials. Instead, it sneaks up on you during these quiet, ordinary moments. Looking down at the vibrant red fruits contrasted against a simple cream plate, I realized I didn't just want to enjoy summer—I wanted to capture its crisp, nostalgic aesthetic and share it.
That single afternoon snack blossomed into an entire design journey, inspiring a brand-new wave of cherry-themed merchandise across two completely different worlds: life-size functional art for your daily life, and ultra-detailed, fine-scale miniatures.
