Enduring Love is a painting that has sold

Pietra dura or pietre dure is an art-historical term for the technique of using exquisitely cut and fitted, highly-polished colored stones to create what amounts to a painting in stone. Considered decorative art, I thought why not translate this technique into a small painting.

This particular floral design can be found at the Taj Mahal in India. Shah Jahan ordered a beautiful tomb to be built in 1641 to immortalize his late wife,Mumtaz Mahal. Heart- broken at the loss of his beloved, he adorned the building with many beautifully crafted elements. This intricate stone carving adorns her marble cenotaph.
