By following this step-by-step guide, you will learn how to select, modify, and finish a PVC bull figurine into a professional-grade 1:12 scale taxidermy mount. These figurines are the perfect size (approximately 6x15 cm to scale down a full adult bull head for a realistic result.
Materials Needed:
- Plastic toy bull figurine (such as the Highland or Texas Longhorn model shown above)
- Fine-tooth razor saw or jeweler’s saw
- Rotary tool (e.g., Dremel) with a sanding bit or fine-grit sandpaper
- Epoxy putty or modeling putty
- Miniature wooden shield plaque (purchased or handmade)
- Hobby paints (acrylics/oils) and various brushes
- Superglue (Cyanoacrylate)

1. Tool Selection & Planning
Before making the critical cut, choose your target figurine (the textured Highland bull provides excellent realism) and the correct tools. Use a fine-tooth razor saw (shown in Image 1) or a jeweler’s saw for a precise, thin kerf that minimizes plastic stress. 2. Executing the Precise Cut

Make multiple shallow passes rather than forcing the saw; forcing can shatter the molded PVC. Aim to remove the head with a relatively flat profile.
3. Refining and Flatting the Neck Profile
A raw saw cut is rarely perfect. To ensure the head sits flush, you must refine the profile.
