Art Scams
Share
Just like many other artists, I am also the recipient of a bunch of emails from so called "buyers" who want me to ship original works of art overseas, yet always make tons of excuses why they can't pay by credit card via Paypal. After reading one horror story after another about unsuspecting artists who have been scammed, I have become extremely wary and rather loose a sale then a painting I have spend many months on.
What always gets me is the ones where the buyer supposedly just moved and wants to fill their home with one artist's entire portfolio, no less. These scammers don't even go through the trouble of listing which works of art they like. It is really frustrating to have to go through hours of internet searching, back and forth emails just to find out that you have been targeted yet once more.
So I figured, in a worsening economy this problem will probably worsen even further, so it might not be a bad idea to share some valuable sites that list these shady characters.
Please share your stories and report anyone who has tried to take you for a ride. This is the only way artists can protect themselves!
