Small Breed Portraits - Shih Tzu Dog Portrait 576

Shih-tzu-painting-from-photo-586 There are many people who because of various circumstances love living with small breed dogs, like this little Shih Tzu. The Shih Tzu is known as a toy breed and weighs in average between 10-19 pounds when fully grown. Although the actual origins of this breed are not very well documented it is believed that it was first seen in Tibet over 1,000 years ago and later became popular in China. There this little dog was popular with the ladies at the Chinese courts.

This dog has a loyal, affectionate, outgoing personality and makes for a great subject to paint. Did you know that the name Shih Tzu (pronounced Sheed - zoo) means "little lion" ?
