Cocker Spaniel Puppy Painting 675

Puppy portraits painted from photo

This Cocker Spaniel puppy portrait started with a photo from 1997 that shows the puppy playing with a cat. Besides being grainy and dark, I was missing a lot of important information for the muzzle.

I was told that the puppy had a very distinguished looking pink nose, but the photo was too blurry to make out the details. So the client sent in another photo and after several tries, I was told that's how the nose looked. Pfew,... I was painted just guessing my way around this pink nose!

My client wanted a soft green background and the whole painting needed some punching up. So I went to town with texture. I really worked up the fur with impasto paint all the while praying that it dries fast so I can ship it out in time for Christmas.

Well, the painting is finished and almost dry.
