Equine Portrait: Two Horses in a Cherry Blossom Landscape

Every now and then, I receive a commission that I wish I had all the time in the world to perfect. This beautiful equine portrait was one of those projects! 🌸 I was tasked with combining two different reference photos into a single 16x20 canvas, which meant navigating different angles and rules of perspective to make the horses feel as if they were truly standing together.

To solve the 'brown on brown' challenge of their coats, I found inspiration in the mauve and pink glimmers of the darker horse. By repeating those tones in the blossoming cherry trees, I was able to create depth and definition throughout the landscape. The final varnish really brought it all together, giving the entire painting the illusion of a warm, sun-drenched afternoon. I truly hope the recipient loves this piece as much as I loved solving its creative puzzles!

I truly hope that the recipient will love this painting as much as I did creating it.
