Munsell Color - Lesson 3 Chroma

Munsell Color - Lesson 3 Chroma

Chroma is the strength or intensity of a color. Any color that that is neutralized or grayish is weak in intensity vs. intense colors that are considered chromatic.
The Munsell notation for chroma is a slash follow by a number /14

5R4/14 means 5 Red, value 4, chroma 14
- a pure red, which is medium dark and very strong

Remember: Different colors reach their highest chroma level at different stages!

red tops at a chroma of /16 (meaning there are 16 steps from grey to intense red)
blue-green top at a chroma of /10 (meaning there are 10 steps from grey to intense blue-green)
