Transforming My Dollhouse into a Modern Farmhouse

Miniature Farmhouse balcony with furniture

I've finally gotten back to my dollhouse transformation project! Inspired by Joanna Gaines' modern farmhouse decor style, I'm turning this little house into a cozy farmhouse retreat. I started on the exterior a while back but had to put things on hold because of my busy schedule with commissions. Now that things have calmed down, I'm excited to add the balcony and turret to the building!

I started by giving the dollhouse a coat of gesso so that it would accept the paint better. Then, I used chalk paint to make the exterior white. For the shutters that used to be pink, I chose a glossy black. I also wanted to add some warm wooden touches and decided to give the balcony a warm, rich wood look. It softens the look of the exterior.

Next, it was time to stage the balcony with a rocking chair that I also painted in gloss black and a rattan basket. The combination of the glossy black details and the warm wooden elements perfectly captures the rustic farmhouse look. The rocking chair and rattan basket add a cozy, lived-in feel that's so characteristic of the farmhouse style.
