Mrs. Maisel's Kitchen Work Progress

Frigidaire Fridge 1 12 scale model

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has a brand new Frigidaire in her kitchen. In the 60's having the latest and trendiest appliance in one's kitchen was a must. On the set of Mrs. Maisel there are several appliances from that era that had to be modelled in 1/12 scale.

sunbeam mixer in miniature

I designed the retro Sunbeam Mixer based on images I found on the net. The mixer is about the size of a Hershey's kiss. However small it migth be it does have two mixers to make any cook's life easier.

making the opening for a miniature sink

I also wanted to share how I created the opening for the miniature sink. It took a lot of fiddling around not to overshoot the size. Now that it fits snug in place and has the faucets attached I can breathe a sigh of relief.

The counter top was sponge painted to match the counter top in the film set. It took three times to get the coloring just right and that's why I was so worried about having to redo it all if the sink did not sit properly in place.

I also added the dish rack and made the artwork that hangs over the sink. The red dish rack was also modeled after racks of that era. On that side of the room a few plants as well as more dishes need to be added .

The stove is also in place. One of the interesting things I learned while doing research on the TV set is that things keep changing. I have photos of the same kitchen one with a door the other without. In one photo there is a fridge another a set garbage can. The stove was at one point a chrome looking appliance and then it got switched out with a more modern white looking one. Needless to say until I figured out what was happening I thought I am really loosing my marbles.

Next on the list of things to do are:

  • finish the wiring on the light fixture
  • add lighting to the hood and attach
  • install the door
  • paint the oven ( it looks so cute!)
  • finish the other side of the room
  • paint the tables and chairs that are waiting to be finished
  • make plants for the window area.
  • attach crown molding

I would love to hear what you think about the kitchen thus far. Do leave me a comment below.
