Fireside Friends at Christmastime

sketch for backdrop diorama
Two corgis perch on a chaise so grand,
Ears up high, like they rule the land.
A tabby sits by the gifts wrapped tight,
Eyes aglow in the fire’s warm light.
The tree stands proud, with its ornaments bright,
Stockings swaying in the cozy night.
Tinsel sparkles, the garlands gleam,
The room feels like a Christmas dream.
Three friends together, each in their place,
A holiday scene full of charm and grace.
A miniature piece housed on a platform flanked by one wall is commonly referred to as a "shadow box" or a "backdrop diorama." These are often used to display small-scale scenes with one defined vertical backdrop to set the scene while leaving the rest open for viewing. A backdrop diorama, unlike an enclosed shadow box, allows the chaise to be positioned at an angle, creating a more dynamic arrangement and giving the scene a sense of openness and breathing room.
