New Beginnings: Capturing the Elegance of the Afghan Hound

I am thrilled to announce that I’ve just stepped back to the easel to begin a brand-new portrait commission of one of the most striking breeds in the canine world: the Afghan Hound.

There is something truly ethereal about Afghans. Often described as "aristocratic," they possess a unique combination of ancient dignity and a playful, almost aloof intelligence. Known for their dramatic, silky coats and exotic faces, they aren't just dogs—they are living art. When painting an Afghan, the challenge and the joy lie in capturing that flowing movement and the soulful, high-intensity gaze that is so characteristic of the breed.

I have been working on this Afghan portrait in my California studio, focusing on the sophisticated "underpainting" layers to ensure the final piece has the depth and soul this majestic subject deserves.
