Victorian Mansion Restoration: Artistry in 1/24 Scale Interior Design

In the world of miniatures, the beauty lies in the tension between the historical reference and the artist's hand. My current project—a full restoration of a 1/24 scale Victorian Mansion—is a study in that very balance.
While many choose to strip a house bare, I’ve opted to preserve the original soft-white and blue patterned wallpaper. It provides a delicate, ethereal backdrop that will eventually contrast beautifully against the deep, moody tones of the dark wood furniture I am currently sourcing.

The Architectural Shift: To maximize the visual flow of the room, I made the executive decision to remove the bulky staircase. In its place, I’ve installed custom flooring handcrafted from aged wood lath (repurposed poplar).

The Artist’s Touch: To bring the wood to life, I utilized Liquin—a professional oil painting medium. Rather than a standard hardware store varnish, Liquin provides a sophisticated, low-luster depth that saturates the grain, mimicking the hand-polished floors of an authentic Victorian estate.

The Focal Point: The original fireplace felt underwhelming, so I have begun a 'faux-bois' marble transformation. By layering pigments to mimic natural stone veining, the fireplace is evolving from a simple accessory into a piece of miniature fine art. The journey of a roombox is never linear; it is a series of curated choices that lead to a final, cohesive portrait of a home.
