Miniature Wreath of Willow

TMiniature Wreath of Willow

This project shows how a tiny wreath of willow is twisted into a simple ring. Using actual, tiny twigs helps capture that perfect rustic texture.

Step-by-Step Guide: Crafting Your Miniature Willow Wreath

Here is a simple breakdown of how to twist your own.

Materials you will need:

  • Thin, flexible willow switches or small twigs
  • Very thin floral wire or strong thread
  • Sharp hobby knife or flush-cut wire nippers
  • Optional: Micro-glitter, small berries, or moss for decoration

The Process:

1. Gather Your Materials

First, select several very thin, flexible willow switches or twigs. If they feel brittle, you can soak them in warm water for a few minutes to make them more pliable.

2. Form the Base Hoop

Take the most flexible twig and gently curve it into your desired wreath size. For a 1:12 scale wreath, aim for about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Overlap the ends slightly. Secure this primary loop by wrapping a small piece of fine wire or strong thread tightly around the overlap.

3. Twist and Interweave

Now, take a second flexible twig. Secure one end with a wire wrap next to your first join. Begin to wrap and interweave the new twig tightly around the first hoop. As you spiral it, tuck the end under one of the existing loops. Repeat this process with 2 or 3 more twigs until the wreath reaches your desired thickness.

4. Finish and Trim

Check that your wreath is circular and holds its shape. Use your wire nippers or a sharp blade to carefully trim away any loose, protruding ends or sharp points of wire.
