El Santuario de Chimayoo

The power of positive thinking is said to reduce stress and like the power of prayer can often have amazing results with those who truly believe. I saw a great show on Oprah's OWN network

about El Santuario de Chimayoo, a sacred Indian place in New Mexico.  It is said that the soil there has healing powers, curing many of its visitors of their ailments. For years native Indians have ate the dirt or rubbed it onto their skin Then the Spaniards, Mexicans and now many pilgrims from all over the world continue to believe in the places magical powers.

Photo Courtesy of Queen of Subtle I think this place just looks magical and lovely.

There is a room where people have left their crutches and there was even an account of a cancer patient overcoming her cancer. So does the belief of the soil having healing powers help people heal or is it miraculous?

Soil test have revealed that the soil is rich in calcium carbonate a substance often used in indigestion medication. Other than that there is no documented proof of these miraculous recoveries other than the believe of those who have been healed.

As an artist I am intrigued to see the old prints and paintings hanging on the walls. There is a certain charm when one sees the offerings and tributes left behind by others.El Santuario de Chimayoo in Santa Fe New Mexico is definitely on my list of places to see.
