Alfred Dubucand was a student of Justin-Marie Lequien and Antoine Louis Barye He exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon from 1867 until 1883. Dubucand was well known as an animalier sculptor and he often depicted animals of North Africa. In 1879 he won a medal for a small bronze group entitled Un chasseur persan au guépard.
