Wikipedia

Trompe-l'œilis an art technique involving extremely realistic imagery in order to create the optical illusion that the depicted objects appear in three dimensions, instead of actually being a two-dimensional painting. Originally a skilled artist would be able to mess with your perception and create an illusion that would make you wonder if you are looking really at a painting or not.

So what would you call and artist who takes real people and turns them into painted characters?Washington DC- based artistAlexa Meade does "reverse trompe l'oeil" where she paints her models in such a way that you still wonder what the heck you are looking at. The result is walking, talking optical illusions, 3D paintings that confuse how the eye processes objects in space.
