Artist: Charles Wilda (1854-1907)
Title: The Fortune Teller
Signed lower left 'CH Wilda'
Charles Wilda belonged to the 'Orientalists' of the late nineteenth century. Following in the footsteps of Delacroix he was attracted to a culture that was both exotic and romantic.
Wilda studied at the Academy of Vienna, under Leopold Carl Muller, who also was a famous orientalist painter. Wilda often traveled to Egypt in search of subject matter. He was a frequent exhibitor at major expositions in both Berlin, Vienna and Paris from 1887 to 1906.
