OLD MASTER PAINTINGS

Pierrot

Pierrot is a mime character, a French version of the Italian Pedrolino. A sad clown, hopefully in love with Columbine, who breaks his heart and leaves him for Harlequin. He is usually depicted wearing a loose, white tunic with an oversize collar and long sleeves.

Pierrot is naive and trusting, somewhat moonstruck in his own little world. He has been depicted on stage and in many paintings over the years.
