Paintings of Iranian Artist Ovissi

Queen in Rest

Always on the look out for living artists whose subject matter are Orientalist imagery, I recently stumbled across the very colorful and playful works of Mr. Nasser Ovissi .

Quiet different from the tight style of some of the artists featured so far, Mr. Ovissi focuses on the depiction of women and horses. The women he paints are a tribute to the almond shapes beauties of his dreams that remind him of his homeland Iran. Horses he regards as sacred creatures that embody intelligence, beauty and grace.

Most of his work seems to be mixed media on canvas and large in scale. Decorative in style, he does I am reminded of the works of Matisse and love the freedom and playfullness this style evokes.
