Drying Time & Design Decisions: The 1:6 French Baskets

The studio is currently smelling of linseed oil and patience. My latest batch of 1:6 scale French-style baskets has moved off the printer and through the first few stages of my finishing process.

After 3D printing these on my Bambu, I applied a foundational coat of primer to ensure the surface was ready for fine detail. Currently, they are sitting on the drying rack as I build up the finish using oil paint washes.

I prefer oils for this specific project because they allow for a long working time, letting me manipulate the "patina" until it looks like authentic, aged wicker rather than just painted plastic. I’m applying several thin, translucent layers to create a realistic depth of color.

While I wait for the oil paint to cure, I’m giving a lot of thought to how I want to fill them. Should it be a classic haul of spring lavender, or perhaps some crusty miniature baguettes?

Stay tuned to see how these baskets get finished and filled!
