Kangaroo Paws

Kangaroo Paws Detail

Just planted red dwarf variety Kangaroo Paws as a focal point to my new succulent garden. This drought tolerant plant has fuzzy red paw like flowers at the end of long stems. The plant is well suited for full sun locations and prefers a well draining soil. It's best to prepare the soil with equal parts of existing soil and planting soil. Dig the hole 2 times the width and 1 1/2 times the height of the container. Plant so that the root ball is slightly above ground level. Then tamp firmly around the root ball and water thoroughly. Add a layer of mulch and keep the plant moist. Fertilize regular.

Water well when the plant is growing and dry during the winter months when plant is resting. If the plant becomes untidy cut it back hard. Remember the more you prune the flowers the bushy the plant will get. I am hoping that it will like the spot I picked for it and thrive year after year.

Anigozanthos hybrids - Kangaroo Paw is a group of Australian natives that have been hybridized to produce some amazing plants with some of the showiest, long lasting blooms I've seen. Some of the varieties are Anigozanthos 'Orange Cross', Bush Ranger, Big Red, Bush Dawn, Bush Devil, Bush Gold, Pink Pearl, Bush Tango,Bush Lantern and Regal Claw.
